Overview
The Type 053H3 Jiangwei II is a Chinese frigate class representing a mid-1990s design that Bangladesh acquired as the most capable surface combatant in its naval inventory. The primary offensive armament is eight C-802 anti-ship missiles with 120 km range, while air defense is provided by the HQ-7 point defense system. A helicopter deck and hangar support embarked rotary-wing ASW and utility aircraft. Though the design is dated compared to modern frigates, the Jiangwei II provides Bangladesh Navy with meaningful area sea denial capability in the Bay of Bengal and protection of the exclusive economic zone.
