Latest production standard of the Leopard 2 main battle tank incorporating the Trophy active protection system (APS), marking the first integration of hard-kill APS on a European MBT. Retains the proven Rheinmetall L/55A1 120mm smoothbore gun with programmable ammunition capability. The A8 standard features enhanced composite and modular add-on armour, upgraded fire control with third-generation thermal imaging, new command and information system integrated with NATO battlespace networks, improved NBC protection, and a redesigned driver's station with rear-view camera. Weight of approximately 66.5 tonnes. Germany ordered 123 Leopard 2A8 tanks under the Zeitenwende programme. Norway, Italy, Czech Republic, and Lithuania have also ordered the A8 variant.
