Overview
Next-generation main battle tank concept unveiled by Rheinmetall in 2022, representing a potential successor to the Leopard 2 family. Features a revolutionary Rheinmetall Future Gun System — a 130mm L/52 smoothbore cannon delivering 50% more kinetic energy than current 120mm guns, with a fully automated ammunition handling system enabling a two-person turret crew. Integrates the HERO 120 loitering munition launcher for indirect fire capability, StrikeShield active protection system, advanced AI-driven sensor fusion, and provisions for unmanned operation. Weight of approximately 59 tonnes — significantly lighter than current Leopard 2 variants. Features a new 1,500 hp power pack with hybrid-electric drive option. Currently in prototype/demonstrator phase competing for various international programmes.
