Finland's most ambitious naval construction programme — four multi-role corvettes designed for ice-strengthened operations in the Baltic Sea and Gulf of Finland. The Pohjanmaa class represents a generational leap for Finnish Navy capability. Displacement of approximately 3,900 tonnes with length of 114 metres — significantly larger than previous Finnish surface combatants. Features Finnish 1A Super ice class strengthening enabling year-round operations in 1-metre ice, comprehensive stealth shaping and signature reduction, MBDA Sea Ceptor vertical launch system (VLS) providing area air defence (25+ km range), Gabriel V anti-ship missiles (200+ km range), 57mm Bofors naval gun, anti-submarine torpedoes, towed-array sonar, comprehensive electronic warfare suite, accommodations for NH90 or equivalent helicopter, and modern combat management system. Propulsion via CODAD (diesel-electric) providing 28+ knot speed. The corvettes will serve as flagships for Finnish naval task groups, providing air defence umbrella, anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and command-and-control for smaller missile boats.
