Overview
The Padma class is a Dutch-designed offshore patrol vessel built by Damen Shipyards for Bangladesh Navy, optimized for exclusive economic zone patrol, fisheries protection, and law enforcement in the Bay of Bengal. Armed with a 30mm cannon and 12.7mm heavy machine guns rather than military-grade weapons, the Padma class is designed for constabulary and coast guard missions rather than combat. Dutch engineering quality provides excellent seakeeping in the seasonal storm conditions of the Bay of Bengal, and the vessels support Bangladesh's enforcement of its vast EEZ and enforcement against illegal fishing and maritime crime.
