Overview
Ecuador operates ex-British Royal Navy Leander-class frigates (modified variants) as the main surface combatants of its small naval fleet. These were modernized before transfer to Ecuador and represent the most capable surface combatants the Ecuadorian Navy fields. While aging, the Leanders provide a surface warfare capability important for Pacific coast patrolling and maritime sovereignty.
