Overview
The Kang Ding-class (also known as the Lafayette-class in Taiwan) is a stealth frigate derived from the French La Fayette design. Six ships were delivered to the Republic of China Navy between 1996–1998. Each displaces ~3,600 tonnes and is equipped with Hsiung Feng II/III anti-ship missiles, Chaparral short-range SAMs, torpedoes, and a 76mm main gun. The class forms the backbone of the ROC Navy's surface combatant fleet but has suffered from a corruption scandal during procurement and ongoing French support restrictions due to Chinese diplomatic pressure.
