Overview
Singapore operates eight Independence-class Littoral Mission Vessels (LMV), domestically designed and built by ST Engineering. The Independence class is a modular mission vessel with interchangeable mission modules allowing ASW, mine countermeasures, maritime security, or anti-surface warfare from the same hull. Each vessel displaces approximately 1,250 tonnes. Permanent armament includes a 76mm OTO Melara gun and Mistral MANPADS. Mission modules add towed array sonar, mine hunting, or additional weapons. Each vessel has a helicopter deck and unmanned surface vessel bay. Advanced automation reduces crew to approximately 23. Eight vessels commissioned from 2017.
