IAI Gabriel V / ANSA Anti-Ship Missile

IAI Gabriel V / ANSA Anti-Ship Missile

Type: missile

Domain: sea

Country of Origin: Finland

Manufacturer: Israel Aerospace Industries

Overview

Advanced Israeli anti-ship missile adopted by Finland to replace aging RBS 15 Mk2 missiles on Hamina and Rauma class missile boats — dramatically extending Finnish strike range. Gabriel V (also known as Advanced Naval Strike Missile or ANSA) represents the latest generation of the Gabriel family in continuous development since the 1970s. Features turbojet engine providing range exceeding 200 km (versus 70 km for older missiles), GPS/INS mid-course navigation with active radar seeker and imaging infrared seeker for terminal homing, sea-skimming flight profile at 3-5 metres altitude making detection extremely difficult, autonomous target recognition distinguishing warships from merchant vessels and selecting aim points, and modern electronic counter-countermeasures. Warhead of 150 kg. The extended range transforms Finnish missile boats from coastal defense vessels into offensive strike platforms capable of engaging enemy naval forces far from Finnish shores. Finland ordered Gabriel V missiles in 2015 with deliveries 2019-2024, equipping Hamina class first with Rauma class following. The missiles provide Finnish Navy with standoff strike capability matching or exceeding Russian and NATO naval systems. Combat-proven concept (earlier Gabriel variants) with operational use since 1973.
