Overview

Spanish next-generation multi-role frigate replacing aging Santa María (Oliver Hazard Perry) class frigates and representing cutting-edge European surface combatant design. F-110 displaces approximately 6,000 tonnes with length of 145 metres. Features comprehensive stealth shaping and signature reduction, integrated electric propulsion for quiet operation and improved efficiency, Aegis combat system variant (SPY-7 AESA radar from Lockheed Martin) providing ballistic missile defence capability, 48-cell Mk 41 VLS for SM-2/SM-6 long-range air defense missiles, Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) for point defense, 16x Naval Strike Missile (NSM) for anti-ship warfare, 127mm main gun, modern sonar suite for anti-submarine warfare, torpedoes, comprehensive electronic warfare systems, and helicopter deck for NH90 or SH-60. Crew of approximately 150-170. Five vessels planned with construction beginning 2020s, first commissioning expected late 2020s. The F-110 will provide Spanish Navy with world-class multi-role surface combatants capable of operations with US Navy carrier groups and NATO task forces. Represents Spanish naval industry expertise in complex warship construction.
