STM Ada Class Corvette

Overview

Turkish anti-submarine warfare corvette being procured by Malaysia through joint production providing modern naval capability and industrial cooperation. Malaysia contracted 6 Ada-class corvettes from Turkey with joint production at Malaysian shipyard Boustead Naval Shipyard. Features stealth design, anti-submarine sonar and torpedoes, anti-ship missiles, 76mm gun, helicopter facilities, approximately 2,300 tonnes displacement. First corvettes built Turkey with later units constructed Malaysia enabling technology transfer and industrial development. Represents Malaysian naval modernization priority providing anti-submarine capability critical for defending approaches and exclusive economic zone. Turkish willingness to transfer technology and enable domestic production appealed to Malaysian industrial development goals. However, programme faced delays and cost increases common to complex defense projects. Critical for Malaysian Navy given aging fleet and capability gaps. Symbolizes Turkish defense industry export success and Malaysian determination for domestic naval construction capacity despite challenges.
