AIDC T-5 Brave Eagle

Taiwanese indigenous advanced jet trainer with light attack capability representing domestic aerospace achievement and operational flexibility. Brave Eagle developed domestically by AIDC with first flight 2020 and production beginning early-mid 2020s replacing aging AT-3. Features modern glass cockpit preparing pilots for F-16V and IDF transition, fly-by-wire controls, weapons capability including missiles and precision bombs for training and combat, maximum speed 560 knots. Programme includes 66 aircraft with deliveries ongoing through 2020s. Secondary light attack role provides capability for permissive environments. Represents Taiwanese domestic aerospace capability maintaining design and production expertise. Cost-effective training compared to using expensive combat jets. Critical for pilot production given operational tempo and attrition concerns in potential conflict.
