Indonesia signed a contract in 2024 for 2 Naval Group Scorpène Evolved submarines to supplement its existing 3 DSME Chang Bogo-class submarines. The Scorpène Evolved is an advanced Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) submarine based on the proven Scorpène design operated by 5 navies. Indonesia's acquisition represents a strategic upgrade of its submarine force for operations in the strategically vital Malacca Strait and South China Sea approaches.
