German third-generation main battle tank providing Hellenic Army with most capable armor for conventional deterrence against Turkey. Greece operates approximately 170 Leopard 2A6 HEL (Hellenic variant) upgraded from Leopard 2A4 procured from Germany and Netherlands. Represents Greek Army armored force centerpiece for territorial defense especially Thrace border with Turkey.
