Overview
Pakistan's indigenous primary trainer aircraft, developed from the Swedish Saab Safari/MFI-17 design with significant Pakistani modifications and enhancements. The Super Mushshak (Urdu for "Ambitious") features a strengthened airframe, upgraded Lycoming IO-540 piston engine producing 260 hp, modern glass cockpit with digital avionics, zero-zero ejection seats for both student and instructor, and provisions for light weapons including machine gun pods and rockets for weapons training and light attack roles. Maximum speed of 250 km/h with endurance exceeding 4 hours. The aircraft serves as the PAF's primary trainer, providing ab-initio pilot training before students transition to jet aircraft. The Super Mushshak has been a notable export success for Pakistan, with sales to Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Azerbaijan, and South Africa among others. The platform has proven reliable and cost-effective, providing excellent pilot training at significantly lower cost than jet trainers. Pakistan Aeronautical Complex has delivered over 200 aircraft.
