Overview
The Pukguksong-5 is North Korea's most advanced submarine-launched ballistic missile, unveiled during a military parade in January 2021. It is larger and presumably has greater range and payload than the Pukguksong-3. The system has undergone only one publicly acknowledged test. If operationally deployed, it would represent North Korea's most credible sea-based nuclear deterrent. However, the absence of a capable submarine fleet to deploy it from remains the critical operational limitation.
