Overview

Indigenous four-engine jet-powered maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft — the only purpose-built jet-powered MPA in the world (all competitors use turboprop power). Powered by four IHI F7-10 turbofan engines in a unique arrangement that allows selective engine shutdown for extended endurance while retaining jet speed for rapid transit. Features the HPS-106 AESA search radar (one of the most advanced MPA radars globally), HQA-7 acoustic processing system for sonobuoy analysis, magnetic anomaly detector, ESM, FLIR, and a comprehensive data fusion system. Armed with AGM-84 Harpoon and ASM-1C anti-ship missiles, torpedoes (Type 97), depth charges, and mines from internal weapons bay and external hardpoints. Crew of 11 with endurance exceeding 8 hours. Approximately 70 planned for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), replacing the P-3C Orion. Operational since 2013.
