TAI CN-235
The TAI CN-235 is a twin-turboprop medium-range transport and maritime patrol aircraft co-produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and Spain's CASA under license. Turkey operates multiple variants: tactical transport for the Turkish Air Force and Army, and the MELTEM-III maritime patrol aircraft (CN-235 MPA) for the Turkish Naval Air Command equipped with a 360° surveillance radar, FLIR, ESM, and sonobuoy dispensers for ASW operations. TAI produces and maintains the aircraft domestically, having manufactured over 50 airframes. The CN-235 is used in more than 50 countries worldwide.

- Short-field performance enables operations from unprepared runways and bare bases
- MELTEM-III MPA variant integrates full ASW suite — radar, FLIR, sonobuoy, MAD
- Full domestic production and maintenance at TAI — no import dependency
- Proven platform operated by 50+ countries with decades of reliability data
- Versatile — transport, MPA, VIP, medevac, paradrop variants in Turkish service
- Turboprop — slower transit speed limits MPA patrol sector coverage
- Smaller than P-8 or P-3 Orion in terms of sensor payload and endurance
- Aging airframes in older blocks — structural life management required
- ANKA İHA increasingly taking over parts of the persistent surveillance MPA role
- Limited self-defense capability in contested airspace
