Finnish designation for the French Crotale NG (Nouvelle Generation) short-to-medium-range air defense system providing mobile air defense for Finnish ground forces. ITO 90M (Ilmatorjuntaohjus 90, "air defense missile 90") features vertically-launched VT-1 missiles with maximum range of 11 km and altitude coverage to 6 km, pulse-doppler radar providing all-weather capability, high probability of kill against aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and UAVs, and excellent mobility on tracked chassis (based on BMP-2 hull modified by Finnish industry). Reaction time under 5 seconds from target detection to missile launch. Each system carries 8 ready missiles with reload vehicles. The VT-1 missile uses thrust-vectoring enabling extreme maneuverability for engaging agile targets. Finland purchased 12 Crotale NG systems in the 1990s, upgrading them in 2010s with improved radars, communications, and integration with Link 16 tactical datalink. The ITO 90M provides area air defense for mechanized brigades, protecting maneuver forces and strategic assets from air attack. Operated alongside NASAMS medium-range systems and man-portable systems in layered air defense architecture. Combat-proven in multiple conflicts.

- High-velocity VT-1 missile effective against fast aircraft and helicopters
- All-weather radar-guided fire control
- Quick reaction time against pop-up threats
- Mobile platform integrates with Finnish brigade AD
- Longer range than Mistral-based SHORAD
- Aging system — successor selection pending
- Limited against ballistic missiles
- No IRST backup if radar is jammed
- Relatively small engagement envelope vs CAMM or Iris-T SL

The vertical launch capacity here provides mission flexibility that single-role warships simply cannot match.
