Overview
NASAMS (Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) is the world's most widely deployed medium-range ground-based air defense system, jointly developed by Kongsberg (Norway) and Raytheon (USA). NASAMS III (latest variant) fires AIM-120 AMRAAM (~25 km), AMRAAM-ER (~50 km), AIM-9X Sidewinder, and IRIS-T SL from networked truck-mounted distributed launchers, making it resilient against suppression. Radar: AN/MPQ-64F1 Sentinel. Protected Washington D.C. for 20+ years. Combat-proven in Ukraine (2022-present) intercepting Russian cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and Shahed drones. 14+ nations operate NASAMS. NASAMS II and III progressively upgrade radar, networking, and longer-range missiles.
