Belt-fed 5.56x45mm light machine gun providing suppressive fire at the fire team level. Gas-operated with quick-change barrel and rate of fire of 750-1,000 rounds per minute. Standard squad automatic weapon since 1984. Being replaced by the M250 for close combat forces but will continue serving in support roles.
