DESCRIPCIÓN DEL SISTEMA
The RBS-70 (Robot 70) is a Swedish man-portable/vehicle-mounted short-range air defense missile system developed by Saab Dynamics. Unlike conventional MANPADS it uses laser beam-riding guidance, making it immune to IR countermeasures and flares. The system engages targets from very low altitude to about 5,000m at up to 9 km range (Mk2 version). Tunisia operates the RBS-70 as its primary point air defense system, providing SHORAD coverage for key installations and ground units in absence of a comprehensive integrated air defense network.

RBS-70 MANPADS - Saab Dynamics
VENTAJAS
- Laser beam-riding guidance — completely immune to IR flares and countermeasures
- Effective against helicopters, low-flying aircraft, and cruise missiles
- Can engage targets flying at up to 9 km range (Mk2) — more capable than typical MANPADS
- Proximity and impact fuze combination improves kill probability
- Upgradeable to BOLIDE missile with further enhanced capability
DESVENTAJAS
- Requires trained operator with line-of-sight — complex to use compared to heat-seeking MANPADS
- Slow system setup — less responsive than shoulder-fired IR MANPADS for surprise engagements
- Aging platform (1977 original design) though modernized versions exist
- No radar integration — relies on visual acquisition
- Limited all-weather and night engagement capability without added sensors
