Patriot PAC-3 MSE Air Defense
Poland's Patriot acquisition under the Wisła (Vistula) programme is the largest ever procurement in Polish defence history (~$15B total). Phase I delivered 2 Patriot batteries with PAC-3 MSE interceptors and PAC-2 GEM-T missiles with AN/MPQ-65A phased array radar. Phase II will deliver additional batteries integrated with the IBCS (Integrated Battle Command System) networking architecture and additional sensors. The PAC-3 MSE (Missile Segment Enhancement) uses hit-to-kill kinetic energy interception with 60+ km range against aircraft and cruise missiles. PAC-2 GEM-T extends coverage to 160+ km against aircraft. The system provides area air/missile defence for Polish strategic centres and NATO eastern flank assets.

- Cornerstone of Poland's Wisła Integrated Air and Missile Defence programme
- PAC-3 MSE hit-to-kill interceptor provides terminal-phase ballistic missile defence
- IBCS integration will create networked air defence architecture across Polish military
- Combat-proven BMD capability critical for NATO eastern flank air defence
- US government commitment to Polish air defence modernisation
- Only 2 batteries in initial delivery — insufficient for Poland's geographic exposure
- Extremely expensive — approximately $4M per PAC-3 MSE interceptor
- IBCS integration timeline remains uncertain
- Dependent on US for interceptor resupply and software upgrades
