Hsiung Feng II Anti-Ship Missile

DESCRIPCIÓN DEL SISTEMA

The Hsiung Feng II (HF-2, "Brave Wind II") is a subsonic sea-skimming anti-ship cruise missile developed indigenously by Taiwan's NCSIST. Sea-launched, air-launched, and land-based truck versions exist. Range is approximately 150 km with active radar homing terminal guidance. The HF-2 forms a key layer of Taiwan's asymmetric anti-access/area-denial strategy against PLAN amphibious forces. It complements the supersonic Hsiung Feng III for a layered anti-ship capability.

VENTAJAS
  • Indigenously developed — immune to foreign arms embargoes and export controls
  • Multiple launch platforms: ships, aircraft, shore-based trucks — flexible deployment
  • Sea-skimming flight profile makes radar detection and intercept challenging
  • Large stockpile provides volume-of-fire capability against amphibious fleets
  • Pairs with supersonic HF-III for layered saturation attack capability
DESVENTAJAS
  • Subsonic speed (Mach 0.85) — more interceptable than supersonic HF-III
  • Smaller warhead compared to larger Western anti-ship missiles
  • Active radar seeker susceptible to electronic countermeasures
  • PLAN ships increasingly equipped with HHQ-16/HHQ-10 SAMs that can engage it
  • Taiwan sole operator — no allied interoperability testing in real scenarios
