Latest evolution of the Aster family of surface-to-air missiles with Block 1 New Technology enhancements. The Aster 30 B1NT introduces an active radar seeker (replacing the semi-active of earlier variants) with extended kinematic performance for anti-ballistic missile (ABM) defense against short and medium-range ballistic missiles. Features enhanced ECCM, new signal processing, and improved terminal guidance algorithms. The Aster 15 provides point defense to 30+ km while the Aster 30 extends to 120+ km with altitude capability exceeding 20 km. Both use the unique PIF-PAF dual aerodynamic/thruster control for exceptional terminal agility (up to 62g manoeuvring). Deployed on French, Italian, and British warships and SAMP/T ground systems.

- PIF-PAF thruster system provides extreme end-game agility against maneuvering targets
- Family approach (Aster 15/30) shares logistics while covering different ranges
- B1NT upgrade adds ABM capability against short-range ballistic missiles
- Deployed on frigates and SAMP/T — seamless naval/land integration
- Smaller warhead than SM-2/SM-6 — may require direct hit
- B1NT ABM capability limited compared to SM-3 or THAAD
- Higher cost-per-round than some competitors
- Production capacity challenges for increasing demand
