The Mistral-class is a French amphibious assault ship (LHD) providing strategic power projection. France operates three (Mistral, Tonnerre, Dixmude). Egypt procured two originally ordered by Russia (cancelled by France in 2014 over Ukraine conflict), designated Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar Sadat — the most capable amphibious vessels in the Arab world. Each vessel displaces ~21,000 tonnes, carries up to 16 heavy helicopters on flight deck, houses 40 armored vehicles in vehicle deck, and can embark 450-900 troops. A well deck accommodates landing craft. 69-bed hospital with two operating theatres enables humanitarian missions.
