Miecznik Class Frigate (Orkan Programme)
Poland's Miecznik (Swordfish) programme aims to deliver 3 multi-mission frigates based on Babcock International's Arrowhead 140 design. Estimated displacement is ~7,000 tonnes with speed 26+ knots. Armament will include a 76mm OTO Melara gun, Mk 41 VLS (CAMM-ER or SM-2 missiles), anti-ship missiles, and torpedo tubes. The AESA multifunction radar will provide area air defence. One to two helicopter hangars support ASW and patrol missions. Babcock is the lead designer with PGZ as Polish industrial partner — PGZ Stocznia Wojenna (Naval Shipyard Gdynia) will construct the hulls. This is the most ambitious Polish naval programme in decades and represents a step change in Polish Baltic capabilities.
