Overview
Next-generation reconnaissance combat vehicle being developed for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force to replace the aging Type 87 Reconnaissance and Warning Vehicle. Expected to feature an advanced sensor suite including long-range electro-optical/infrared systems, ground surveillance radar, and UAV integration for extended-range reconnaissance. The vehicle will incorporate modern networking capabilities for real-time intelligence sharing across the JGSDF's digital battlefield network. Armed with an autocannon and anti-tank missiles for self-defence and limited engagement capability. Designed for wheeled mobility to match the Type 16 MCV and other wheeled combat vehicles in rapid deployment formations. The Type 25 represents Japan's commitment to modernising its reconnaissance capability for potential island defence and grey-zone conflict scenarios in the Western Pacific.
