Overview

Argentine infantry fighting vehicle derivative of TAM tank chassis providing mechanized infantry with protected mobility, firepower, and commonality with armor. VCTP (Vehículo de Combate de Transporte de Personal) shares automotive components and chassis with TAM providing logistical advantages and similar mobility. Features 20mm Rheinmetall cannon providing fire support, 7.62mm machine gun, capacity for 10 infantrymen plus 2 crew, armor protection against small arms and shell fragments, powered by same MTU diesel as TAM providing 75 km/h road speed, and weight of approximately 28-30 tonnes. The commonality with TAM enables mechanized battalions to operate homogeneous fleet simplifying maintenance and training. VCTP provides mechanized infantry with capability to accompany TAM tanks in combined arms operations. Approximately 100+ VCTP produced alongside TAM production. Modernization programmes upgrading fire control, sights, communications, and potentially weapons similar to TAM 2C-A2. Alternative variants include VCPC command vehicle, VCTM mortar carrier, and VCRT recovery vehicle creating complete family of vehicles. Represents Argentine combined arms doctrine requiring infantry vehicles with mobility matching tanks. Future potential upgrades or replacement alongside TAM modernization. Critical enabler for mechanized operations.
