Overview
The S-350 Vityaz is a medium-range SAM system designed to replace the ageing S-300PS in Russian service. Each TEL carries 12× 9M96E or 9M96E2 missiles with active radar homing seekers — a fire-and-forget capability absent from S-300. Engagement range is 120 km (9M96E2) against aircraft and 30 km against ballistic warheads. The system tracks 100 targets and engages 16 simultaneously. Entered service 2019 with limited distribution. The system uses the same fire control infrastructure as the S-400, allowing networked operations. Russia plans to replace all legacy S-300PS with Vityaz and supplement with S-400.
