Overview

Brazilian twin-engine jet tactical transport aircraft representing most significant Latin American military aviation programme and demonstrating Brazilian aerospace industry world-class capability. KC-390 features twin turbofan engines (IAE V2500) providing jet speed of Mach 0.80 (470 knots) — significantly faster than turboprop C-130, maximum payload of 26 tonnes (equivalent to C-130J), cargo hold with dimensions accommodating vehicles, palletized cargo, and standard containers with rear ramp for airdrop, aerial refueling capability both receiving fuel and providing fuel to other aircraft with optional hose-and-drogue pods, maximum range of 2,600+ nautical miles with full payload or 6,000+ nautical miles ferry range, modern glass cockpit with fly-by-wire flight controls, and multi-mission capability including cargo transport, paratroop operations (80 paratroopers), medical evacuation, firefighting with belly tanks, humanitarian assistance, and aerial refueling. Cruise altitude up to 36,000 feet. Crew of 2-3 pilots. Brazilian Air Force ordered 28 KC-390 with deliveries from 2019 onwards, replacing legacy C-130E/H fleet. The aircraft achieved exceptional export success with orders from Portugal (5 aircraft), Hungary (2), Austria (4), Netherlands (5), Czech Republic (2), and South Korea (indefinite quantity contract) — representing confidence in Brazilian aerospace engineering. KC-390 provides Brazilian military with strategic airlift for Amazonian operations, disaster relief, Antarctic resupply, and international peacekeeping deployments. Represents Brazilian defense industry maturity producing world-competitive platforms.
