Overview
The DF-21D is the world's first operational anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) and China's primary carrier-killer weapon. Designated a "carrier killer," it uses maneuvering reentry vehicle technology to home onto aircraft carrier-sized targets at sea, threatening to make carrier operations inside the first island chain extremely hazardous. The missile reaches speeds of Mach 10 in terminal phase making interception extremely difficult.
