Overview
American attack helicopter procured by Kenya providing heavy rotary-wing fire support capability. Kenya acquired AH-1F Cobra from United States through Foreign Military Sales or grants providing dedicated attack helicopter capability. Features tandem cockpit, 20mm cannon turret, rockets, TOW anti-tank missiles, and combat-proven design from Vietnam War onwards. Maximum speed 140 knots. Kenyan Cobras support ground operations against Al-Shabaab providing close air support, armed reconnaissance, and convoy escort. Complements lighter MD 500 Defender providing heavier firepower when required. Maintenance supported by US training and spare parts.
