Germany's next-generation multi-purpose frigate programme to replace the aging F124 Sachsen-class in the fleet air defense and multi-mission role. Displacement of approximately 10,000 tonnes — significantly larger than predecessors, approaching destroyer size. Will be armed with 16-cell Mk 41 VLS for SM-2 and ESSM missiles, 8 RBS 15 Mk4 anti-ship missiles, RIM-116 RAM, 2x MLG 27 remote weapons, torpedo tubes, and a 127mm main gun. Features the Thales APAR Block 2 AESA radar and SMART-L EWC long-range surveillance radar. Designed for 2-crew-watch operation with extensive automation reducing crew to approximately 120. Can embark 2 NH90 helicopters and multiple USVs. Germany ordered 4 ships (option for 2 more) with first delivery expected around 2028.

- Largest and most capable German surface combatant
- Extensive automation reduces crew requirements significantly
- Multi-mission: ASW, AAW, anti-surface, and stabilization operations
- Two embarked NH90 helicopters
- Only 16 VLS cells — low missile count for a 10,000-tonne ship
- Program has experienced cost increases
- Very large for a frigate; blurs line with destroyer
- First ship delivery has been delayed
