ASWF Anti-Submarine Warfare Frigate

SİSTEM GENEL BAKIŞI

Netherlands next-generation anti-submarine warfare frigate programme replacing aging De Zeven Provinciën-class and Karel Doorman-class vessels — representing major Dutch naval modernization for 2030s threat environment. Development contract awarded to Damen 2022-2023 with detailed design underway. Planned procurement of 2-4 vessels with first expected late 2020s/early 2030s. Requirements include displacement of approximately 6,000-7,000 tonnes, comprehensive anti-submarine warfare suite with towed-array and hull-mounted sonars, helicopter operations (NH90 or equivalent with potential for unmanned rotorcraft), VLS for air defense missiles (CAMM/Sea Ceptor or Evolved Sea Sparrow), anti-ship missiles (potentially Naval Strike Missile), modern radar systems, reduced acoustic signature for ASW operations, and modular mission systems. The frigates will emphasize anti-submarine warfare reflecting renewed focus on Russian submarine threats in North Atlantic and Arctic waters. Potential cooperation with Belgium (similar requirements) for joint procurement reducing costs. Design likely leverages Damen's export frigate designs adapted for Dutch requirements. The ASWF represents Dutch recognition of deteriorating European security environment and need for modern ASW capability to defend sea lanes of communication. Will integrate with NATO maritime surveillance networks and allied ASW forces.
