Export variant of China's Type 99A main battle tank acquired by Pakistan to modernise its armoured forces and provide a high-end capability to counter Indian T-90S and Arjun tanks. The VT-4 (MBT-3000 in Chinese designation) features a 125mm smoothbore gun with autoloader, firing Chinese-developed APFSDS, HEAT, and HE ammunition plus gun-launched anti-tank missiles with 5 km range. Advanced composite armour with modular ERA and potentially Active Protection System (APS), modern fire control with third-generation thermal imaging for gunner and commander providing hunter-killer capability, GPS/INS navigation, battlefield management system with datalink, and a GL-5 active protection system (Hard-kill APS) providing defence against ATGMs and RPGs. Powered by an 1,300 hp turbocharged diesel engine. Weight of 52 tonnes. Maximum speed of 71 km/h. Pakistan ordered approximately 300+ VT-4 tanks from 2016 with deliveries ongoing. The VT-4 is also operated by Thailand and represents China's most advanced tank export.
