The Trident II D5 is a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) that forms the sea-based leg of both the US and UK nuclear triads. It can carry up to 8 W88 or 14 W76 thermonuclear warheads with a range of over 12,000 km. Launched from Ohio-class and Vanguard-class submarines, the Trident II provides a virtually undetectable second-strike capability.
