Kenya ordered SPYDER (Surface-to-air PYthon and DERby) from Israel with deliveries beginning 2026. Features mobile launch vehicles firing Python-5 and Derby missiles with active radar guidance, range of 15-50+ km depending on missile, 360-degree coverage, and netted operation. SPYDER protects strategic installations, mobile forces, and provides area defense against aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, and potentially cruise missiles. Represents significant Kenyan air defense modernization replacing aging systems. Israel provides training and support. Critical for protecting Nairobi and military bases from potential threats including terrorist UAVs.
