Germany's principal tracked infantry fighting vehicle in its enhanced S1 (VJTF) configuration, representing one of the most capable and heavily protected IFVs in the world. The S1 upgrade adds the MELLS (Mehrrollenfähiges Leichtes Lenkflugkörper-System) Spike LR anti-tank missile launcher integrated into the turret, enhanced digital communications, and VJTF-standard situational awareness systems. Mounts a Rheinmetall MK30-2/ABM 30mm autocannon with airburst programmable ammunition in an unmanned Lance turret. STANAG 4569 Level 6 protection with additional modular armour achieving Level 6+ against mines. Carries 6 dismounts plus 3 crew. Weight of approximately 43 tonnes in heaviest configuration — the heaviest IFV in NATO service. 350 in Bundeswehr service.
