Senegal operates the Panhard ERC-90 Sagaie as a primary wheeled armored reconnaissance and fire support vehicle. Inherited from French military cooperation, the ERC-90 provides the Senegalese Army with a mobile platform armed with a 90mm GIAT gun capable of defeating light armored vehicles and providing direct fire support. The 6x6 configuration provides good mobility on Senegalese roads and semi-prepared terrain, while the gun armament delivers punch beyond infantry weapons. The Sagaie serves in reconnaissance units and as fire support for infantry formations in counter-terrorism operations in Casamance and along the Malian border. However, the aging platform faces growing spare parts challenges as France and other operators have retired the type.

- 90mm gun provides significant firepower against light armored targets and fortifications
- Excellent road speed (over 90 km/h) for rapid deployment across Sahel terrain
- Low profile and wheeled mobility suit Senegalese operational environment
- French origin simplifies logistics within Senegal's historically French-equipped force
- Turret stabilized for on-the-move firing capability
- Thin armor — highly vulnerable to RPGs and heavy machine guns
- 6x6 wheeled chassis limits extreme off-road mobility in sandy terrain
- Aging 1970s-1980s design with declining French spare parts availability
- 90mm ammunition increasingly scarce as most operators transition to larger calibers
- No thermal imaging limits night capability in Sahel operations
