M1A1 SA Abrams
Morocco operates the M1A1 SA (Situational Awareness) variant of the Abrams main battle tank, acquired from the United States as part of a bilateral security relationship. Morocco is one of few African nations to operate the Abrams, providing it with top-tier armored capability. The SA configuration adds an enhanced Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer, improved digital battlefield management system, and Force XXI Battle Command Brigade-and-Below (FBCB2) network. Morocco uses the Abrams to maintain conventional deterrence and for potential operations in the Saharan desert environment.
