The C1 Ariete is an Italian third-generation main battle tank produced by OTO Melara (now Leonardo) and Iveco. Armed with a 120mm smoothbore gun and protected by composite armor, it has served the Italian Army since 1995. Though smaller and lighter than contemporaries like the Leopard 2, it was designed for Italy specific geographic and logistic requirements.
