Overview
Russian advanced main battle tank procured by Egypt under massive 500-unit local assembly programme representing most significant armored vehicle deal in Egyptian history and transformation of Egyptian armor capability. Egypt and Russia signed contract 2018-2020 for licensed production/assembly of T-90MS (latest export variant of T-90) at Egyptian factories with Russian technology transfer. Programme value estimated several billion dollars. Features 125mm 2A46M smoothbore gun with autoloader firing latest armor-piercing ammunition, gun-launched anti-tank guided missiles (9M119 Refleks, 5 km range), advanced Relikt explosive reactive armor providing protection against tandem-warhead weapons, modern fire control system with thermal imaging and laser rangefinder, 1,130 hp engine, soft-kill and potentially hard-kill active protection systems, and comprehensive modernization over original T-90.
