Overview
The T-72 is a Soviet third-generation main battle tank produced by Uralvagonzavod, widely regarded as the most produced modern MBT in history with over 20,000 built. Featuring a 125mm 2A46M smoothbore gun with carousel autoloader, the T-72 can fire APFSDS, HEAT, and 9M119M Invar ATGM rounds. Bangladesh acquired T-72s to supplement and eventually replace its aging Type 69-IIG fleet. While an older design compared to the MBT-2000, Bangladesh's T-72s provide reliable medium-tank capability with well-established logistics and ample availability of training doctrine from the wide global user base.
