Overview
Egyptian indigenously-developed next-generation anti-tank guided missile system representing domestic capability in precision anti-armor weapons. Sakr 105 developed by Sakr Factory (major Egyptian military production facility) as modern replacement for aging RPG-7 and first-generation ATGMs. Features 105mm guided missile with tandem-warhead for defeating explosive reactive armor, fire-and-forget capability using imaging infrared seeker eliminating need for operator guidance after launch (reported), maximum range of 4-5+ km, top-attack capability engaging tanks from vulnerable top armor, soft-launch enabling firing from enclosed spaces, reusable launcher with thermal sight for day/night operations, and man-portable configuration or vehicle-mounted options. Weight approximately 15-20 kg for complete system. Egyptian Sakr 105 equips infantry and mechanized units providing modern anti-armor capability against potential regional threats including Israeli Merkava, Syrian T-72, and others. Indigenous development provides technological independence and avoids export restrictions on advanced ATGMs. Combat effectiveness uncertain without operational testing but represents significant capability if performance matches specifications. Potential export opportunities to regional partners and African nations. Technology development possibly benefited from foreign technical assistance or reverse engineering. Represents Egyptian priority developing indigenous precision weapons reducing import dependence and supporting domestic industry.
