Overview
Colombian indigenously-developed mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicle representing successful domestic defense industry creating protected mobility solution optimized for Colombian requirements. Hunter TR-12 (later redesignated Meteoro) developed by COTECMAR (Corporación de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo de la Industria Naval Marítima y Fluvial) initially for Colombian Marines expanding to Army service. Features V-shaped monocoque hull directing blast energy away from crew compartment, mine protection for TNT charges under hull and wheels, ballistic protection against small arms and shell fragments, capacity for 10+ personnel, remote weapon station (.50 cal or 7.62mm), independent suspension providing off-road mobility, and various configurations including personnel carrier, command vehicle, ambulance. Weight approximately 12-14 tonnes. Powered by diesel providing road speed of 90+ km/h. Colombian Hunter/Meteoro protects forces in counter-insurgency operations where IED and mine threats persist following decades of conflict. Indigenous development provides technological independence, supports Colombian defense industry, and enables customization for specific threats. Production at COTECMAR facilities creating employment and industrial capacity. Potential export opportunities to regional nations facing similar threats. Continuous improvements based on operational feedback. Represents successful Colombian defense innovation addressing urgent operational requirements without foreign dependence. Complements M1117 and LAV III creating comprehensive protected mobility capability.
