Overview

The Yono ('Salmon') class is an even smaller midget submarine than the Sang-O, displacing approximately 130 tonnes. Believed to have been used in the sinking of the South Korean corvette ROKS Cheonan in March 2010, killing 46 sailors — the deadliest North Korean military action in decades. The Yono class can fire a single 533mm torpedo and is extremely difficult to detect due to its tiny size. Multiple vessels are reportedly in service for coastal attack and special operations.
