Overview
Third-generation nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine programme to replace the Le Triomphant class from the late 2030s onwards, ensuring continuity of the French nuclear deterrent through the second half of the 21st century. Expected displacement exceeding 15,000 tonnes with significantly improved stealth, sensors, and combat systems compared to the current class. Will carry a future evolution of the M51 SLBM. Features will include an enhanced nuclear reactor, advanced acoustic silencing, and next-generation command and control systems. Concept and design studies are underway at Naval Group with the programme representing one of France's highest-priority defence investments.
