Overview
South Korea's first Aegis-equipped guided missile destroyer, displacing 11,000 tonnes full load — the largest surface combatant in the Republic of Korea Navy and one of the most powerful destroyers in the Asia-Pacific. Features the Lockheed Martin AN/SPY-1D(V) phased array radar and Aegis Weapon System Baseline 7, providing simultaneous tracking of over 900 targets and engagement of multiple threats. Armed with 128 VLS cells: 48-cell Mk 41 for SM-2 Block IIIB SAMs, 48-cell K-VLS for Hyunmoo-3C cruise missiles and K-ASROC anti-submarine rockets, plus 32-cell K-VLS for Haegung SAMs. Also carries 16x SSM-700K Haeseong anti-ship missiles, 1x Mk 45 Mod 4 127mm gun, CIWS, and torpedo tubes. Can embark 2x Super Lynx helicopters. Three ships in class: Sejong the Great (DDG-991), Yulgok Yi I (DDG-992), and Seoae Ryu Seong-ryong (DDG-993).
