S-500 Prometey

Overview

Next-generation air and missile defense system designed to intercept ballistic missiles, hypersonic targets, and low-orbit satellites at ranges up to 600 km and altitudes of 200 km. Uses 77N6 hit-to-kill interceptors at speeds up to Mach 20. Supplements and extends the S-400 system. Capable of engaging targets currently only defeatable by strategic ABM systems. Limited initial deployment.
